Fuel Harmonics PLC has made significant progress within the shipping industry with its fuel saving and emissions improvement device, 'the Fitch Fuel Catalyst'.
The marine market is wrestling with a number of difficult commercial issues, not least the ongoing IMO driven imperative to reduce CO2 emissions and the long term trend for fuel price increases.
Offshore, high impact and commercial fleets can make remarkable savings up to 5.7% on fuel consumption. This coupled with the ever more positive environmental issue of reduced emissions, transom smut and diesel smoke plumes makes the application of the Fitch in the shipping industry a very appealing solution on many levels. And none are more vital than the benefits to the engines onboard all types of commercial vessel and the alleviation of the diesel bug/algae. The Fitch facilitates a cleaner and therefore more efficient combustion - this leads to cleaner engines, less frequent servicing and therefore less time out of service.
Those working boats, high impact tugs and barges, commercial passenger vessels from in-shore to offshore all enjoy the fuel economy benefits of the Fitch when applied to their fleets. The Fitch can be found on the Condor Express and Condor Vitesse – both SeaCat fast ferries and the Carnival Cruises' Aurora and discussions are in progress with Smit, Svitzer, RNLI, PLA and HMRC. A 5.7% improvement in fuel consumption on ships this size are dramatic when one considers a 76,000 ton ship burns 45,000 tonnes of fuel a year the savings are significant, as are the reductions in noxious emissions. The shipping market is one that the Fitch is penetrating daily and the benefits in this area are clear. And in this global market Fuel Harmonics is pleased to be working alongside MOST (Marnine One Stop Technologies).
MOST chairman, James Fanshawe CBE said: "There has never been a better time for an effective catalyst system. From personal experience in command I have seen the effect SRB can have on the metal in ship's fuel tanks. Furthermore, regulatory pressure is developing in the maritime world to reduce carbon and other emissions from ships, vessels and craft of all sizes. And there is an ongoing requirement for all operators to reduce their operating costs, notably for fuel.
Whilst there is always cynicism about products such as the Fitch Fuel Catalyst (FFC) in the marine market, MOST is completing a range of demanding trials, both at sea and in shore-based test facilities, to ensure that comprehensive trial results underpin the claims of the product. To date, results recorded confirm that the FFC is proving its worth with consistent levels of fuel savings of over 4%, which corroborate with other trial reports which have yielded similar or even better results.
Marine One Stop Technologies (MOST) is proud to represent Fuel Harmonics plc as their agent for the FFC in the marine market and other transport sectors and has great confidence in Fuel Harmonics plc. The FFC is central to the range of efficiency products offered by MOST."
